EOU Fledglings Meeting 2024

22-24 March 2024

Charles University, Prague, Czechia

ABOUT CONFERENCE

4th European Meeting of Young Ornithologists

The European Ornithologists’ Union (EOU) is the umbrella organisation for ornithologists, and Fledglings is its offshoot for young researchers – bachelor, master, PhD students, and postdoc (up to five years since PhD defense).

The aim of the EOU Fledglings meetings is to connect young researchers across Europe, learn about their work and engage experienced senior researchers in mentoring. We aim to make the conference both affordable and geographically accessible to young researchers across Europe. The 2024 meeting in Prague will build on the very successful (in terms of number and quality of presentations) conferences in Vienna, Turin and Debrecen.

Message from the EOU President

Dear EOU fledglings,

It gives me an immense pleasure to welcome you to the 4th EOU Fledglings
Meeting. You have ahead three exciting days full of presentations, poster
sessions and round tables to present and discuss your research ideas and
outcomes to other early career researchers and experienced investigators.

Zsófia Tóth, Vojtěch Brlík, Ondřej Belfín, Javier Oñate Casado and Jakub
Hrouda have scheduled many activities in this meeting, getting a chance to
connect informally with other ornithologists and receive valuable feedback
for the development of your careers. I am very grateful to them for the
preparation of this scientific friendly scenario, as well as to the keynote
speakers for sharing valuable experiences, advice, and knowledge with young
ornithologists. I want also to acknowledge to the Faculty of Science of Charles
University, Czech Society for Ornithology (CSO), the German Ornithologists‘
Society (DO-G) and the British Ornithologists’ Union for their hosting and
support.

This new edition of the EOU fledgling meeting follow the successful line of the
previous meetings held in Vienna (2016), Torino (2018) and Debrecen
(2022) promoting the exchange of research ideas and future collaborations
among more than 100 young ornithologists from institutions spreading
across Europe.

I wish you a nice and fruitful meeting.
Alfonso Marzal
President of the European Ornithologist’s Union
